2018 Whitewater Youth 30-hour Famine

On Friday, Feb 23rd starting at 4:30pm through the evening of Saturday, Feb 24th, ending at about 7:00pm, 8th grade and high school youth will unite together to bring awareness to our global and local famine crisis, by participating in a 30-hour famine. There is room for you, too!!

Youth throughout Whitewater will begin fasting on Friday, Feb 23rd at noon through 6:00pm Saturday, with a meal to follow. For 30 hours youth will be participating in a lock-in, sleeping in cardboard boxes and participating in community service events to help unite our community in battling against hunger.

Students will be in cardboard box houses on Saturday, Feb 24th from 9-11am in front of the Whitewater Walmart. They will be taking monetary donations and non-perishable food donations for the Whitewater Pantry.

What is it like to not have anything to eat or to live in a cardboard box?
This experience will give our local youth a taste of what so many deal with every single day.  All donations appreciated!

This year, the event is hosted by St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1225 W. Main St. Whitewater, WI 53190. Questions? (262) 473-3143.

Haiti Mission Trip 2017

A group of five local and surrounding area residents are teaming up together and will be traveling to Haiti in August, including two members of our church.
Where are they going? Here is a link to the Mission Group they will be working with.

Supplies they are bringing: Here is a list of supplies that they hope to bring with them when they travel to Haiti. You can also find more information below.

Who is going? Here is the mission team: Lisa, Morgan, Maggie, Bridget and Matt.

Do you want to help?

This mission group would like to collect $300 so they can purchase some food at a local market and then host a community meal for a small village in the mountains near Port de Paix.

They would also like to raise about $400 so they can bring down some supplies like the items seen in this picture.

The supplies that they would like to bring to Haiti include:
Soccer balls and soccer ball pumps
Nail polish, files, cotton pads, nail polish remover – consider the relationship that might be built from tenderly caring for the hands of a woman weary who opens up to talk about her handicapped or a young girl who, after several manicures, finally trusts enough to tell you that, at 11 years old, she’s the only one left to take care of her younger brothers and sisters. Maybe, through these relationships built on lovingly serving others, much needed help can be received. Trust can be built. Hearts can be changed. And God can be glorified! Yes, glorified even through nail polish. 🙂
Sunday school supplies: crayons, markers, card stock, glue sticks
Diapers size 4
Baby shampoo
Large Ziploc bags
Trash bags (13 gallon STRONG)
Garlic salt
Seasoning salt
Baby Formula –  (sensitive) because some Mamas don’t get the opportunity to eat which causes struggles with feeding baby. We have to get baby healthy AND feed mom.
Feminine pads –There is a unique component to being female in a third world country. Sometimes you can’t go to school if you don’t have the right tools. This goes beyond paper and pencils.
We also have an Amazon Wish List for those friends and family who want to help but can’t attend on Aug 6th:  http://bit.ly/HaitiSupply2017

If you’d like to make a monetary donation so the team can purchase supplies to bring with them, please makes checks out to the UCC Church with “Haiti mission trip” in the memo and mail to the UCC Church, 133 S. Franklin St, Whitewater, Wi 53190.

DO SOMETHING MobilePack – 4/2/16

It’s time for us to DO SOMETHING, and TOGETHER we can make a BIGGER impact. A community united.

 We are partnering with:

Feed My Starving Children
. . .to bring a MobilePack food packaging event to Whitewater in the Spring of 2016.

SAVE THE DATE: April 2, 2016 at the Whitewater High School

Our inspiration: Special thanks to – Children’s World Impact – for inspiring us with the song: Do Something by Matthew West

DOsomethingMobilePack2016
If not us, then who?

If not now, then when?

It’s not enough to do nothing.

It’s time for us to do something.

Our goal is to bring community members together, including: families, churches, youth groups, service clubs and civic groups, university students, and more – all in one place. Together we can make a difference and use the opportunity to learn more about some of the other amazing groups in our own community and surrounding areas.

DSC_0905This is an international service project, but we will also be focusing on the needs of our own local food pantry at the same time. In order to bring this event to our community, we need to commit to paying for and packing at least 100,000 meals. This will not be a problem! In fact, most communities raise more than the minimum amount required. All additional money raised is just icing on the cake = more meals to pack and more volunteers who can help. Believe it or not, we will have to turn down volunteers because there won’t be enough to do. Expect at least three shifts (1.5-2 hours long) of 200+ volunteers each.

There are two parts to this event:
1. fundraising
2. food packing
DSC_0849Before we can pack food, we need your help with the fundraising.

Did you know that it only costs .22 cents to package a nourishing meal for a hungry child? We have decided that we can easily break those 100,000 meals into 22 manageable sponsorship opportunities. For $1000, your group can be a sponsor you can help us bring this event to Whitewater. This is a great fundraising project for your youth group, or for the young people of your group, but people of all ages benefit from the MobilePacking event itself. Ideas: Round that .22 cents up to a quarter and hold a quarter drive, or hold a fundraising dinner and have a free will donation, etc. For more ideas, see our website. Please consider being one of our 22 major sponsors.

"I volunteer to pack food whenever I can. It is also a great thing that my son can help as well. Not many places allow children to volunteer. Thank you so much for being there!" - Susan, FMSC Volunteer

It’s time for us to DO SOMETHING, and together we can make a BIGGER impact.

Please contact us SOON if your group would like to be one of the main sponsors.

Email Morgan: WhitewaterMobilePack@gmail.com and provide your group name and a contact person (including best phone number and email so we can send updates). Partial payments toward your donation is appreciated.

Checks made out to:

Feed My Starving Children

Please include “1604-018AU”  in the memo section so that your donation is credited to our MobilePack here in Whitewater. Your group name should also be included somewhere with your donation.

Mail Checks: Do Something MobilePack, Congregational UCC Church, 133 S. Franklin Street, Whitewater, WI 53190

Additional donations appreciated. All groups who donate toward this event will be recognized, no matter the amount of their donation. There are other ways to help, too. We will be posting additional ideas here soon. You will also find photos there to give you a better idea of what this event will look like. Thanks for your consideration!

Sincerely,

Here are some photos from a similar MobilePack event that we participated in on Oct 4th, 2014 in Delavan, WI.

We have already had a small taste of the great things that can be done together as a community... Pictured are members of youth groups, service clubs and Girl Scouts - working together at a similar event opportunity in Delavan a few weeks ago.

We have already had a small taste of the great things that can be done together as a community… thanks to the efforts of Bridget from “the 19 days” who organized this event in Delavan, WI. Pictured is the crew from Whitewater who went (members of a youth group, service club and Girl Scout troop) – working together on Oct 4th, 2014. We packed individual food portions for: Feed my Starving Children. Special thanks to “the 19 days” for inviting us to help. Not many places allow CHILDREN to volunteer. They had a blast! We hope to bring an event like this to Whitewater, too.
