The annual event marks the beginning of the academic year, and will be held in Young Auditorium at 10:30 a.m.

Faculty, staff, students and community members are invited to attend.

(August 16) School Supplies and Clothes at the Whitewater Community Clothes Closet on Saturday August 16th at Congregational UCC Church was an overwhelming success. Now however is time to replenish the school supplies and particularly backpacks to prepare for the Tues. Aug 19th Clothes Closet “helping Whitewater children succeed.”

(August 14) The public is invited to attend an organ dedication concert on Friday September 19, 7:30pm at the Congregational United Church of Christ 133 S. Franklin St.

 

Internationally renowned concert organist Bruce Bengtson will be performing. Mr. Bengtson is recognized as an accomplished organist throughout the United States. He has also claimed an international audience through concerts in Mexico, Canada, Finland, Sweden, France, Austria, and Denmark. An award winning musician, he has played for the National Convention of the Organ Historical Society, and the National Conference of the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians(ALCM). He has also led hymn festivals across the country. Bruce is an active clinician and member of the ALCM. Augsburg Fortress Publishing Company has two of his anthems in print. He has appeared in broadcasts of Wisconsin Public Radio. Bruce is Director of Music at Luther Memorial Church in Madison, Wisconsin, a position he has held since 1978. Besides the duties of organist, he is responsible for the choral and instrumental program of the parish. There will be a reception following the concert. Admission is free; however, donations are welcome.

(August 13) The public is invited to join the members of the Whitewater Congregational United Church of Christ at 133 S. Franklin St. for an old fashioned (Wisconsin style) Shrimp Boil. Save the September 13th date. The seating will begin at 5pm and will continue until 7pm.

In addition to jumbo shrimp, they will be serving organic, homegrown boiled red potatoes, Mississippi caviar, coleslaw, cornbread, all topped off with homemade peach cobbler. There will be a children’s meal available as well. The cost will be $15 for adults and $5 for the kids menu.

Advanced tickets are required. Please contact them at (262) 473-4101 or drop into the Congregational UCC church office Monday through Thursday between 9am and 1pm to purchase tickets. The proceeds of this event will go to Back Bay Mission. Back Bay is an on-going outreach project of the United Church of Christ serving the homeless population in Biloxi Mississippi. Come and join the fun and become a part of an important mission project.

(August 12) The 65th Anniversary of the Ordination of the Rev. Dr. Carroll J. Olm as a minister of the United Church of Christ will be acknowledged at a worship service on Sunday, August 24th, at 10am at the Congregational United Church of Christ, 133 South Franklin Street. Everyone is invited to attend this celebration of ministry.

The Rev. Olm will preach the sermon titled “If I Had a Thousand Lives to Live” focusing on the Call of the Ministry. The Rev. Phil Milam, pastor, will conduct the liturgy. Pastor Olm was ordained on August 7th, 1949, at Community United Church of Christ, Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. He served in parishes: Trinity UCC, Mulberry, IN, Calvary Memorial UCC, Wauwatosa, WI, Providence UCC, Racine, WI and at St. Paul’s UCC, Sheboygan, WI. In 1960 he accepted the call to become the Founding Director of the Wisconsin Conference UCC Fairhaven Retirement Services in Whitewater, WI, where he served for 29 years. Since his retirement in 1990 he has supplied church pulpits and has participated in Whitewater community activities such as serving on six city boards and commissions and as a member-at-large of the City Council. Currently he serves on the Whitewater Community Foundation Board. He continues in his 36th year as a member of the First Citizens State Bank Board of Directors.

A period of fellowship and sociability featuring ice cream sundaes will be held immediately after the service.
